SUBJECT: ENGINE SHUDDER DURING DRIVE AWAY AND/OR HARSHNESS DURING IDLE (REPLACE RIGHT REAR ENGINE MOUNT)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1991 SKYLARK WITH 3300 ENGINE (VIN CODE N)


CONDITION:

Some 1991 Skylarks equipped with 3300 engine (VIN N) may exhibit engine shudder during drive away and/or harshness during idle.

CAUSE:

Collapsed right rear engine mount.





CORRECTION:

Inspect the gap in the mount as shown in Figures 1 and 2 with the engine off and normal engine weight on the mount. If the gap is less than 6.5 mm (1/4 inch), the mount is collapsed and should be replaced (Figure 1). If the gap is greater than 6.5 mm (1/4 inch), the mount is not collapsed and other causes of the shudder or harshness should be investigated.
