HIGH EFFORT MANUAL WINDOW REGULATOR (REWORK WINDOW RUN CHANNEL/INSTALL COUNTERBALANCE SPRING)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991 SKYLARK
CONDITION:
Some owners of 1991 Skylarks may experience high effort when rolling the front windows up and down.
CAUSE:
Excess rubber on ends of window run channel.
CORRECTION:
1. Remove door trim panel according to instructions in Section 10-6 in the 1991 Skylark Service Manual.
2. Remove outside mirror.
3. Remove window run channel.
4. Check measurement between mirror patch inboard and outboard sides of run channel, Figure 1 View A. If opening is less than 22 mm (7/8 inch), open mirror patch area to 22 mm (7/8 inch) by grinding.
5. Grind ends of window run channel 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) deep as shown in Figure 1 Sections "C-C" and "D-D" and remove a length 90 mm at the front and 195 mm at the rear of the run channel as shown in Figure 1 View A and View B.
6. Remove door window regulator assembly (Figure 2).
7. Remove production counterbalance spring using tool J 38864 (Figure 3).
8. Install counterbalance spring P/N 20053546 using tool J 38864 or equivalent.
9. Clean grease off regulator (lower sash cam and front window retainer), re-grease regulator with grease P/N 12345718 or equivalent.
10. Install door window regulator assembly.
11. Install window run channel.
12. Install outside mirror and door trim panel.
