Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
Fig. 48 Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replace:
Front
Wheel speed sensor is non-adjustable. Left and right speed sensors are not interchangeable.
Proper installation of speed sensor cables is critical. Failure to route cables properly could cause system malfunction due to over-stressing or abrasion. Refer to Fig. 48, for proper routing of cables.
1. Open hood, then disconnect wheel speed sensor connector, Fig. 48.
2. Cut strap retaining sensor lead, then raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove sensor lead from brackets, sensor retaining bolt, then the sensor.
4. Inspect sensor face for build up of metallic particles, dirt, grease, or other contaminants. Clean as needed.
5. Inspect sensor face for damage. Replace sensor if damage causes improper operation.
6. If sensor is removed or replaced, coat sensor body with anti-corrosion compound where the sensor contacts knuckle.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Torque sensor retaining bolt to 7 ft. lbs.

Rear
Refer to Figs. 49 and 50, during removal and installation procedure.
1. Remove hub and bearing assembly.
2. Clean area surrounding sensor housing/interface area.
3. Remove Torx type screws securing sensor, then the sensor. Do not allow dirt or other contaminants to enter sensor housing.
4. Do not add lubricant to bearing through sensor housing opening. This bearing is lubricated for life of vehicle.
5. Do not clean grease from toothed sensor ring. Grease does not effect operation of sensor.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure O-ring is not torn or missing. Torque Torx screws to 33 inch lbs.
