Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Neutral Start Switch Removal And Adjustment.:




Rear Of Engine:







REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
- Negative battery cable.
- Place vehicle in neutral.
- Shift linkage.
- Electrical connector.
- Mounting bolts.
- Switch assembly.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
- Place transaxle shift lever in NEUTRAL.
- Align flats of shift shaft to flats in switch.
- Mounting bolts.
^ If bolts holes do not align with mounting boss on transmission, verify shift shaft is in neutral position. DO NOT ROTATE SWITCH. Switch is pinned in the neutral position.
^ If switch has been rotated and pin broken or when using old switch, adjust as follow:
a. Assemble mounting molts loosely.
b. Align slot in support with slot in back and insert 2.34 mm (3/32 inch) maximum diameter gauge pin horizontally into both pieces.
c. Torque bolts.
- Tighten mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
- Remove gage pin (if used).
- Shift linkage.
IMPORTANT: After switch installation, verify that engine will only start in "Park" or "Neutral". If engine will start on any other position, readjust switch.

ADJUST IF NEEDED
- Place transaxle control shifter assembly in the "Neutral" notch in detent plate.
- Loosen switch attaching screws.
- Rotate switch on shaft assembly to align service adjustment hole with carrier tang hole.
- Insert 2.34 mm (3/32 inch) maximum diameter gauge pin to a depth of 15.0 mm (5/8 inch).
- Tighten attaching screws to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
- Remove the gauge pin.
