Windows: Description and Operation

NOTE: In text, Master Switch refers to:
LH Front Window Switch (4 Door)
LH Master Switch Assembly (2 Door)

A permanent magnet (PM) motor operates each of the power windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when voltage is supplied to it. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. The switches control the supply voltage polarity.

The Master Switch controls all of the motors. Each window switch controls only one of the Motors.

Each motor is protected by a built-in circuit breaker. If a window switch is held too long with the window obstructed or after the window is fully up or down, the circuit breaker opens the circuit. The circuit breaker resets only after voltage is removed from the motor.

MASTER SWITCH OPERATION

When the Ignition Switch is in RUN, battery voltage is applied to the Master Switch through the POWER WINDOW Circuit Breaker and the PNK wire. When any of the UP switches in the Master Switch are operated, battery voltage is applied to the Window Motor. The Window Motor is grounded through the DN contact in the Master Switch. The motor runs to drive the window up. When any of the DN switches in the Master Switch are operated, battery voltage is applied to the Window Motor in the opposite direction. The Window Motor is grounded through the UP contact in the Master Switch. The motor runs to drive the window down.

If the LH Front DN Switch in the Master Switch is momentarily pressed down past the first detent, the window will travel to the fully down position.

LOCK OUT SWITCH (4 DOOR ONLY)

The Master Switch contains a Lock Out Switch which will remove battery voltage from the other window switches. This will not allow the operation of the windows from their individual switches. The windows can still be operated as normal from the Master Switch.

WINDOW SWITCH OPERATION

When the Ignition Switch is in RUN, battery voltage is applied to the window switches through the circuit breaker (Coupe), the LH Master Switch Assembly (Sedan), and the PNK wires to the switches. When the UP switch in the RH Front Window Switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the RH Front Window Motor through the DK BLU wire. The motor is grounded through the BRN wire and the DN contact in the RH Front Switch Assembly, TAN wire, and the DN contact in the Master Switch. The motor runs to drive the window up. When the DN Switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the RH Front Window Motor in the opposite direction through the BRN wire. The Motor is grounded through the DK BLU wire, the UP contact in the RH Front Switch Assembly, the DK BLU/WHT wire, and the UP contact in the Master Switch. The motor runs to drive the window down. The other windows operate similarly from their individual window switches.
