Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Filter (Coupe):

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure, Service and Repair
3. Disconnect the fuel filter bracket release tabs.
4. Grasp the filter and one fuel line fitting. Twist the quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within the fitting. Repeat for the other fuel line fitting.
5. Using compressed air, blow out the dirt from the quick-connect fittings at both ends of the fuel filter.

WARNING: Wear safety glasses to protect eyes from flying debris.

6. Depress plastic tabs of male connector halve and pull connector apart.
7. Remove the fuel filter.

INSTALLATION:

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury:

^ Before installing a new filter, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both ends of the filter. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated).

^ If the new filter is nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, it must be replaced.

1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install the new plastic connector retainers on the filter inlet and outlet tubes.
3. Install the filter in the retainer noting the direction of flow indicated on the filter.
4. Connect the quick-connect fittings.
a. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both tube ends of the filter.
b. Push the connector halves firmly together until they "snap-lock" into place.
c. Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to make sure the connection is secure.
5. Secure filter into the retainer and lock the bracket tabs together.
6. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
