Electrical - Engine Wire Harness Shorted to Block

SUBJECT: ENGINE WIRE HARNESS MAY BE DAMAGED BY ENGINE BLOCK (REPOSITION AND SECURE HARNESS)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1991 ROADMASTER ESTATE WAGONS 1992 ROADMASTER SEDANS
CONDITION:
The main electrical harness (right rear side of engine) may contact the engine (see illustration). The heat from the engine block may damage the harness by shorting the wires to the block.
CAUSE:
The harness may be pushed forward from its normal position, allowing contact with the engine block. A clip was added in production after the following VIN 'S:
Roadmaster Sedan NR402868
Roadmaster Estate Wagon MW403073
CORRECTION:
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle. Remove right front wheel and tire. Remove inner fender splash shield.
Inspect harness, and repair any damage as necessary.
4. Remove the plastic push-in clip from the bracket. The push-in clip can be left on the harness to locate the new clip.
5. Use clip, P/N 12010517, and self-tapping screw, P/N 11500086, to retain the harness to the bracket as shown in the illustration. Straighten bracket if necessary. Make sure the clip stays vertical after the screw is tightened.
6. Install inner fender splash shield. Install wheel and tire. Lower vehicle.
7. Reconnect negative battery cable.
Part Number 11500086 is currently available from GMSPO.
Part Number 12010517 is expected to be available on June 17, 1991. Until then, normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer s expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
