Bulletin: 92-6A-1

Date: June '91

Ref. No.: 92-004-6

Corp. Ref. No.: 116103R

SUBJECT: CLICKING/RATTLING NOISE FROM FRONT OF ENGINE DURING
BRAKING (PEEN DOWN RAISED WELD AREA/FILE AREA FLUSH)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1992 ROADMASTER SEDANS

Some 1992 Roadmaster Sedans equipped with a 5.7L (VIN Code 7) engine may experience a clicking or rattling noise coming from the front of the engine. The noise may be more apparent during braking or on inclines when the front of the car is lower than the rear.

This noise may be caused by the camshaft timing gear contacting a weld spot on the inside of the chain cover. Refer to Figure 1.

To repair this condition:

1. Remove the front timing cover.

2. Support the outside of the cover at the spot weld and use a hammer to peen down the raised weld area.

3. File the remaining weld buildup flush.
