1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove two screws from front of left side instrument panel sound insulator, Fig. 36.
3. Remove one bolt from rear left side and one nut from accelerator pedal bracket, then pull left sound insulator straight forward to remove.
4. Remove three screws from front of right side sound insulator, Fig. 37.
5. Remove nut from right back side, then pull right side sound insulator straight forward to remove.
6. Remove two screws from instrument panel filler panel, Fig. 38.
7. Gently pull forward on left side trim cover to release hooks on front of lower instrument panel filler panel.
8. Disconnect lap vent hose and ALDL connector, then remove instrument panel filler.
9. Remove two screws from steering column opening filler, Fig. 39.
10. Lower steering column by removing shift indicator clip, then the three retaining bolts and one nut.
11. Disconnect electrical connectors at steering column and disconnect parking brake cable.
12. Disconnect instrument panel harness connectors to body connectors at junction block, Fig. 40.
13. Disconnect speaker connectors, A/C vacuum harness and temperature door cable.
14. Disconnect emission harness connectors, antenna cable and side window defroster hoses.
15. Disconnect speedometer cable from engine compartment split if a two piece cable is used, or from the transmission for slack.
16. Split bulk head connector by removing 1/4 inch bolt, then slide instrument panel side of connector out of clip.
17. Disconnect electrical connectors form windshield wiper motor, master brake cylinder and hood light.
18. Disconnect harness cowl connector, then feed harness through cowl.
19. Remove two screws, then pull speaker-defroster grille straight out.
20. Remove two nuts on both inner sides of steering column opening.
21. Remove three bolts on bottom side of instrument panel, then remove six screws in defroster area at top of instrument panel, Fig. 41.
22. Pull instrument panel forward and disconnect speedometer cable, then remove panel. On vehicles equipped with digital instrument cluster, the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) buffer must be disconnected.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
