Parking Brake Adjustment:
Brake Components:
NOTE : Prior to adjustment of the parking brake the service brakes need to be inspected and adjusted. Refer to Brake Shoe/Adjustments.Adjustments
1. Apply park brake to 10 clicks and release. Repeat 5 times.
2. Check parking brake pedal for full release.
^ Turn ignition to "ON" position and check that "BRAKE " indicator lamp is off. If light is on and the brake appears to be released, operate pedal release lever and pull downward on the front parking brake cable to remove slack.
^ Check the cable routing for kinks or binding. Clean and lubricate the parking brake assembly and cables with lubricant.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Adjust park brake cable until 1/8 inch drill (20) can be inserted into space between shoe web and park brake lever. Adjustment is satisfactory when 1/8 inch (3.17mm) drill can be inserted into space but 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) drill cannot.
5. Apply park brake 4 clicks and check rear wheel rotation. Wheel should not move when one attempts to rotate it (by hand) in a forward direction. Wheel should drag or not move when attempting to rotate in a rearward direction.
6. Release park brake and check for free wheel rotation.
7. Lower vehicle.
