Refer to Figs. 3 and 4, when performing the following procedure.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve tank vapor pressure.
3. Drain engine coolant, ,then disconnect hood lamp wiring.
4. Mark position of hood for assembly reference, then remove hood retaining bolts and remove hood.
5. Remove throttle body intake duct, then rear sight shields.
6. Remove the battery, then air cleaner housing.
7. Remove upper radiator hose, then disconnect brake booster vacuum hose.
8. Remove alternator top brace, then disconnect wiring.
9. Disconnect upper engine wiring harness from engine.
10. Discharge A/C system, then remove compressor to condenser and accumulator lines.
11. Raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove left splash shield, then disconnect exhaust system from the engine.
13. Disconnect lower engine wiring, then remove flywheel inspection cover.
14. Remove front wheels and lower radiator hose.
15. Disconnect heater hoses from the heater core, then remove brake calipers from the steering knuckle. Use wire to support brake calipers.
16. Disconnect tie rod ends from struts, then lower the vehicle.
17. Remove left side sound insulator from under dash panel, then disconnect the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.
18. Remove clutch slave cylinder retaining nuts at front of dash and disconnect remote reservoir, if equipped.
19. On 1990 models, remove actuator cylinder retaining nuts from the transaxle, then remove clutch hydraulic system as a unit from the vehicle.

20. On all models, disconnect fuel feed and return lines, Fig. 5. Place shop towel over fuel line and fitting when disconnecting.
21. Disconnect transaxle linkage at the transaxle.
22. Disconnect accelerator, cruise control and TV cables from throttle body.
23. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect transmission cooling lines from the transaxle.
24. On all models, disconnect power steering hoses from the power steering pump.
25. Remove four center carriage support bolts, then align dolly under frame and lower vehicle to dolly and add support under engine.
26. Support rear of vehicle, then remove upper transaxle mount.
27. Remove upper strut bolts and nuts.
28. Remove front engine mount, then rear engine mount.
29. Remove four rear, then four front carriage retaining bolts.
30. Wire front carriage bolt holes together to prevent axle separation.
31. Raise vehicle and remove engine and transaxle assembly on dolly.
32. Reverse procedure to install.
