Brakes - Drag/Loss of Power/Cruise Will Not Set

Bulletin:
93-5-4

Date:
Dec. '92

Ref.No.:
93-75-5

Corp.Ref.No.:
235016R

SUBJECT:
BRAKE DRAG (INSTALL NEW SERVICE KIT)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1993 CENTURY

CONDITION:

Some owners of 1993 Century cars may comment on the following:

a. Loss of power
b. Vehicle slowing
c. Downshift when attempting to maintain speed
d. Cruise control will not set
e. Other symptoms of brake drag

CAUSE:

Some 1993 Century cars built during the following VIN's may exhibit one or more of these conditions due to a stack up variation between the booster, front of dash, dash mat, and brake pedal bracket during installation. This may cause the booster piston rod which mates with the master cylinder to extend beyond the normal setting. The master cylinder may then retain pressure which in turn could lead to brake drag.

NOTE:
This condition will not affect the normal functioning of the brake lights nor the cruise control brake pedal release.

VIN Breakpoints: SOP - 1G4AH55NXP6421046 (Oklahoma City)
SOP - 3G4AG54N3PS609861 (Ramos Arizpe)

CORRECTION:

If a vehicle has one or more of the above symptoms, install GM Service Kit 18021068. This kit includes the following:

a. Two piece adjustable piston rod.
b. Revised reaction retainer
c. Silicone lubricant
d. Detailed installation instructions

NOTE:
The above condition will not be corrected by changing the booster and/or master cylinder. The only correction is the installation of the GM Service Kit 18021068.
