Lamp Control Module: Description and Operation
The lamp monitor system is made up of two main components: the lamp monitor display and the adaptive lamp monitor module. The adaptive lamp monitor module monitors each lighting circuit by looking at voltage across internal resistors in each monitored lighting circuit. If voltage drop across one of these resistors decreases by a certain percentage, the adaptive lamp monitor module recognizes this as a lamp outage and communicates this information over the serial data line to the lamp monitor display. The lamp monitor display flashes the corresponding light emitting diode (LED) for approximately 10 seconds, then lights the LED, indicating a bulb outage. The adaptive lamp monitor module is adaptive because it may be used in vehicles with various lighting configurations. This module recognizes and adapts to a particular lighting configuration when the ignition switch is in RUN and the park lamps are turned on. This module must relearn vehicle lighting configuration if battery is disconnected.
NOTE: Headlamp switch and park lamp switch are not ganged, therefore park lamps are not turned off by turning off headlamps if park lamps were turned on with park lamp switch.
