RATTLING OR LOOSE LUMBER TYPE NOISE FROM REAR STRUT AREA (REPLACE MOUNTING NUTS AND TORQUE TO NEW SPEC)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991-93 PARK AVENUE/ULTRA

CONDITION:
A rattling or loose lumber type noise is heard from the rear of the car especially on bumps. The noise can be isolated to the rear struts.
CAUSE:
The cause of the noise is the interface between the upper strut mount and the body of the vehicle. The strut itself does not cause the noise.
CORRECTION:
1. Remove the two (2) strut tower mounting nuts on each strut from inside the trunk.
2. Install new nuts P/N 11502812 and torque to 50 N-m (37 lb.ft.).
Whenever performing this procedure, always replace the nuts on both the right and left rear struts.
Replacing the strut assembly is not required to correct this condition.
