Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Disconnect cross brace from struts towers as follows:

a. Loosen bar assembly through bolts.

b. Remove inboard strut nuts.

c. Remove brace assembly.

d. Install inboard strut nuts.

3. Remove air intake duct.

4. Remove cruise control cable at throttle body, vacuum hoses at servo, then servo assembly.

5. Remove shift control linkage mounting bracket at transaxle, then lever at manual shaft.

6. Disconnect wiring connectors at: transaxle Park/Neutral Position switch and back up lamp switch, transaxle electrical connector and vehicle speed sensor.

7. Remove fuel pipe retainers, then disconnect vacuum modulator hose at modulator.

8. Remove top three transaxle-to-engine bolts, then install engine support fixture. Load the support fixture by tightening the wingnuts several turns to relieve tension on frame and mounts.

9. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel and ball joint assemblies.

10. Separate control arms from steering knuckles. Drive axle seal protector J 34754 should be modified and installed on any drive axle prior to service. Failure to observe this can result in damage and possible joint failure.

11. Remove right drive axle from transaxle only, do not remove from hub/knuckle assembly.

12. Remove left drive axle from transaxle and hub/knuckle assembly.

13. Support transaxle with jackstand, then remove left front transaxle mount.

14. Remove torque strut bracket from transaxle, then left rear transaxle Mount-to-transaxle bolts.

15. Remove transaxle brace from engine bracket, then stabilizer shaft link to control arm bolt.

16. Remove flywheel cover bolts, flywheel cover and flywheel-to-converter bolts. Mark flywheel to converter relationship to ensure proper installation.

17. Remove bolts attaching rear frame member to front frame dog leg.

18. Remove front left frame-to-body bolts, then front left frame dog leg-to-right frame member bolts.

19. Remove frame assembly by swinging aside and supporting with suitable stand, then disconnect cooler pipes at transaxle.

20. Remove remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts. One bolt is located between transaxle case and engine block and is installed in opposite direction.

21. Lower transaxle away from vehicle.

22. Reverse procedure to install.
