Computer System Precautions
The Antilock Brake/Traction Control System interfaces directly with the EBCM/EBTCM. This control computer is similar in some ways to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). These modules are designed to withstand normal current draws associated with vehicle operation; however, care must be taken to avoid EBCM/EBTCM circuit overloading. In testing for opens or shorts, do not ground or apply voltage to any circuit unless so instructed by the appropriate diagnostic procedure. These circuits should only be tested with a high Impedance multimeter (J 34029-A or equivalent) or special tools described in this section. Never remove or apply power to any control module with the ignition switch in the RUN position.
Before removing or connecting battery cables, fuses or connectors, always turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
