DTC 61

CODE DESCRIPTION
The presence of this code indicates the oxygen sensor signal voltage change time is too slow or sluggish. The ECM interprets this condition as a degraded or contaminated oxygen sensor.

The ECM performs the oxygen sensor response time check under the following conditions:
^ Coolant temperature greater than 85°C (185°F).
^ Intake air temperature greater than 10°C (50°F).
^ System is operating in closed loop.
^ System is in deceleration fuel cut-off mode.

If a Code 61 is stored the oxygen sensor should be replaced. A contaminated sensor can result from using leaded gasoline, or fuel additives that are not approved or compatible for use in engines with oxygen sensors, or by using non-approved RTV silicone sealants. A silicone contaminated oxygen sensor can usually be identified by a white powdery coating on the sensor tip.
