Removal
Figure 2 Cylinder Head:
NOTES
^ Before removing the cylinder head(s) from the engine and before disassembling the valve mechanism, perform a compression test and note the results.
^ During disassembly, be sure that the valve train components are kept together and identified so that they can be installed in their original locations.
REMOVAL
1. Remove intake manifold and gasket. Refer to Intake Manifold / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
2. Remove exhaust crossover pipe.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Remove oil filter and adapter.
5. Position oil cooler aside, if equipped.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Remove A/C compressor, and position aside.
8. Remove radiator hose clamp at coolant pump.
9. Remove radiator hose from coolant pump.
10. Remove A/C and torque strut mounting bracket. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. Locations Refer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
11. Remove plug wires from spark plugs.
12. Remove left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold / Service and Repair.
13. Remove vacuum pipe nut.
14. Remove cylinder head bolts.
15. Remove cylinder head and head gasket.
NOTE If replacing the cylinder head, transfer the torque strut bracket.
CLEAN
^ Gasket surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block and the intake manifold.
^ Cylinder block bolt threads.
^ Cylinder head bolts.
