Engine Installation

Install or Connect
1. Engine assembly from engine stand.
2. Flywheel, spacer and retaining bolts. Torque retaining bolts to 70 Nm ( 52 ft. lb. ).
3. Engine assembly.
4. Start (2) transaxle to engine retaining bolts.
5. Remove lifting device and transaxle support.
6. Remaining transaxle bolts.
7. Vacuum modulator line at modulator.
8. Crossover pipe and torque nuts to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. ), raise vehicle, then install exhaust pipe bolts at rear exhaust manifold and torque bolts to 28 Nm ( 21 ft. lb. )
9. Transaxle support bracket bolts at transaxle.
10. Engine mount retaining nuts at frame. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. LocationsRefer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
11. Necessary electrical connectors. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
12. A/C compressor to mounting bracket and mounting bolts.
13. New oil filter and torque to 13 Nm ( 115 in.lb. ).
14. Flywheel to torque converter bolts ( automatic transmission ). Torque bolts to 70 Nm (52 lb. ft.).
15. Right engine splash shield.
16. Starter and torque bolts to 43 Nm ( 32 ft.lb. ).
17. Flywheel covers.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Power steering pump and retaining bolts. Torque bolts to 34 Nm (25 lb. ft.).

CAUTION: To Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury: Before connecting fuel line fittings, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.) DO NOT attempt to repair sections of nylon fuel lines. If damaged, replace.

20. Fuel lines and torque fittings to 30 Nm ( 22 ft. lb. ).
21. Heater hose clamps and hoses.
22. Radiator hose clamps and hoses.
23. Rotate engine forward.
24. Secondary air injection pump assembly, if equipped.
25. Necessary electrical wiring. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
26. Throttle, TV, and cruise control cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations
27. Brake vacuum tube at plenum and booster.
28. Rotate engine back.
29. Hood with assistant.
30. Battery cables and torque bolts to 15 Nm ( 11 ft.lb. ). Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair / Idle Learn Procedure. Service and Repair
31. Air cleaner assembly, including air flow tube to throttle body.
32. Fill engine coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
33. Inspect for proper fluid levels for leaks.
