Engine Removal

1. Remove air cleaner assembly, including air flow tube from throttle body.
2. Disconnect battery cables.
3. Remove hood with assistant.
4. Drain engine coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
5. Rotate engine forward.
6. Remove brake vacuum tube at plenum and booster.
7. Remove throttle, TV, and cruise control cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations
8. Remove necessary electrical wiring. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
9. Remove secondary air injection pump assembly and support aside, if equipped.
10. Rotate engine back.
11. Remove radiator hose clamps and hoses.
12. Remove heater hose clamps and hoses.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, always relieve fuel system pressure prior to disconnecting fuel system components.

13. Remove fuel lines.
14. Remove power steering pump and set aside.
15. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
16. Remove flywheel covers.
17. Remove starter.
18. Remove right engine splash shield.
19. Remove flywheel to torque converter bolts.
20. Remove oil filter.
21. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts and hang compressor to body.
22. Remove necessary electrical connectors.
23. Remove engine mount retaining nuts at frame. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. LocationsRefer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
24. Remove transaxle support bracket bolts at transaxle.
25. Remove exhaust pipe bolts at rear exhaust manifold.
26. Lower vehicle.
27. Remove crossover pipe.
28. Remove vacuum modulator line at modulator.
29. Support transaxle.
30. Remove transaxle to engine retaining bolts.
31. Attach lifting device.
32. Remove engine assembly.
33. Remove flywheel bolts, flywheel and spacer.
34. Engine assembly to engine stand.
