Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair

Power Steering Hose Routing:






Remove or Disconnect

1. Raise vehicle and suitably support

CAUTION: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

2. Intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt at steering gear.
3. Support frame using jack stands.
4. Rear frame mount bolts and lower rear of frame about 128 mm (5 inches).
5. Retaining clip from steering gear.
6. Loosen pressure pipe from steering gear and power steering pump.
7. Pressure pipe.

Inspect
^ O-rings, replace as necessary.

Install or Connect

1. Pressure pipe.
2. Pressure pipe at steering gear and power steering pump.
3. Retaining Clip to steering gear.
4. Raise frame and install rear frame bolts.

CAUTION: When installing the intermediate shaft, make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

5. Intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt to steering gear.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Fill system.
8. Bleed the system.

Inspect
^ For leaks.
