PROM - Short Operation of MIL Lamp

Group Ref.: Engine Fuel & Emission

Bulletin No.: 376510

Date: September, 1993

SUBJECT:
SHORT OPERATION OF MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) (CHANGE CALIBRATION)

MODELS:
1993 BUICK REGAL, CHEVROLET LUMINA, OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME, AND PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (LHO W/M13/NB2) EARLY GEN II SPECIAL

CONDITION:

Early 1993 W-Car vehicles equipped with 3.1L GEN II (LHO) special engines (California emission - NB2) and 4T60E automatic transaxles (M13) may have a very short illumination cycle for the bulb check function with the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Operation of the MIL during start-up may differ from other GM models and years. All other operations of the MIL are not affected and are consistent with other models and years.

CAUSE:

The MIL bulb check function was not fully used in early built GEN II special vehicles.

CORRECTION:

Upon customer concern, the operation of the MIL bulb check can be changed for consistency with other GM vehicles by installing production calibration part number 16190541, EE (Flash) PROM broadcast code "BFCR." Corporate service bulletin 316513 updates the service manual to reflect the MIL operation change.
