REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly and remove air cleaner.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector at wiper motor assembly and remove the right hand electrical center cover and upper fan shroud, if equipped.
3. Transmission fluid and engine oil dipsticks.
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle and drain engine oil.
5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe at manifold assemblies and flywheel cover.
6. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler lines at clips on oil pan assembly.
7. Remove the starter.
8. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector and remove sensor assembly.

CAUTION: The oil level sensor assembly must be removed before removing oil pan assembly or damage could occur to the oil level sensor assembly and oil pump pickup screen and pipe.

9. Remove the engine mount through-bolts/screws.
10. Turn crankshaft timing mark to 6 o'clock position to get crankshaft assembly out of the way.
11. Lower oil pan assembly and check that forward crankshaft throw and counterbalance weight are not in the way of oil pan assembly removal.
12. Raise engine assembly enough to remove oil pan assembly.
13. Remove the oil pan nuts and bolts/screws with reinforcement.
14. Remove the oil pan assembly and pan gasket.
15. Clean the oil pan assembly and cylinder block gasket surfaces.

INSTALLATION
1. Apply small amount of sealer, GM P/N 1052914 or equivalent, to front cover and cylinder block junction and to rear seal retainer and cylinder block junction. Apply sealer 25 mm (1 inch) in either direction of radius cavity of junctions (figure 1).

NOTE: Only a small amount of sealant is required. Excessive amounts of sealant may cause an improper seal and oil leakage.

2. Attach a new gasket to oil pan assembly and install oil pan.
^ Turn crankshaft assembly as necessary.
^ Loosely install nuts and bolts/screws with reinforcement.
^ Ensure pipe clamps are installed on bolts/ screws they were removed from then torque oil pan nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb ft) and the bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb in).

3. Lower engine assembly and install the engine mount through-bolts.
4. Install the oil level sensor assembly and connect Oil level sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the starter and connect the transmission fluid cooler lines at clips on oil pan assembly.
6. Install the flywheel cover and the exhaust crossover pipe at manifold assembly.
7. Lower vehicle and refill crankcase with engine oil of proper type and amount.
8. Install the transmission fluid and engine oil dipsticks then the upper fan shroud, if equipped.
9. Install the right hand electrical center cover.
10. Connect the electrical connector at wiper motor assembly.
11. Install the air cleaner and connect the battery negative cable assembly.
12. Inspect for leaks, after running engine assembly.
