Campaign - Incorrect Engine Oil Dipstick: Overview

Model Year: 1993
Bulletin No.: 93-C-2
File in Group: 6
Number: 8
Date: Dec. '92

SUBJECT:
INCORRECT ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK

MODELS AFFECTED:
CERTAIN 1993 ROADMASTER SEDANS WITH 5.7L (L05) ENGINE

General Motors has determined that certain 1993 Buick Roadmaster Sedans built at the Arlington assembly plant (VIN Code R) have engine oil dipsticks that are approximately 20 mm longer than the correct engineering specification. This condition would cause a properly filled engine to indicate an over filled reading on the dipstick. Draining the oil to correct this condition would result in the engine oil being approximately one (1) quart low.

To correct this condition, a new dipstick with the correct length, will be sent to all owners of record. Additionally, those owners with under filled engines will be given the option to come to their dealerships to have the engine oil level inspected and adjusted as necessary. Also, dealers are to correct any affected vehicles in stock with the new dipstick and addition of engine oil as required.
