Dealer, Owner and Parts Information
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITYSince a dipstick can be easily installed; a new dipstick, along with installation instructions will be sent directly to all owners of record for the owner's convenience. Refer to PARTS INFORMATION if owner calls regarding dipstick problems. Owners may install the dipstick or they may ask the dealer to do the service. Owners of vehicles who want to have the engine oil level inspected will be instructed to make an appointment with the dealer to have this service completed.
All unsold new vehicles in dealers possession and subject to this campaign MUST be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this campaign bulletin BEFORE owners take possession of these vehicles.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory with no owners indicated on the listing are to be contacted by the dealer and arrangements made to make the required correction according to instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such owners a copy of the owner letter accompanying this bulletin. Campaign follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose since the owner may not as yet have received the notification letter.
DEALER MATERIAL
If your dealership has vehicles involved in this campaign, you will receive the following items:
- Listing of all vehicles involved in this campaign shipped to your dealership.
- One (1) Campaign Identification Label per vehicle involved.
Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number computer listings. Computer listings contain the complete identification number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data will enable dealers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign.
These computer listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Buick Motor Division (see copy of owner letter included with this bulletin). Owners are being instructed to call their Buick dealer if they encounter problems in receiving their dipstick. Refer to PARTS INFORMATION if owner calls regarding dipstick problems.
CHANGE OF OWNER INFORMATION
Dealers are to use the Dealer Communication System (DCS) to provide Buick Motor Division with subsequent Buick owner information. By reporting a change of owner name or address of a vehicle in campaign status over the DCS, the need to send a CVAR form for that vehicle is eliminated. Terminal input instructions are covered in the DCS Manual under Section 9, page 9-J01A and B.
PARTS INFORMATION
A new engine dipstick and instructions for installation and checking the engine oil level will be mailed to owners of record by Buick on a no charge basis.
If an owner calls, stating he/she received a letter and no dipstick, please schedule an appointment at the dealership to have campaign performed.
Engine oil dipsticks required for vehicles in your inventory (stock units), should be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO). To ensure that these parts are obtained as soon as possible, they should be ordered from GMSPO on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code but order under advise code (2).
