Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair

PROCEDURE
1. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve tank vapor pressure. (DO NOT tighten at this time.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector at fuel tank.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Place transmission selector in PARK (NEUTRAL on manual transmissions), set parking brake, and block drive wheels.
6. START engine and allow it to run a few seconds until it stops from lack of fuel.
7. Engage starter for three seconds to dissipate fuel pressure in lines.
8. Raise vehicle.
9. Connect fuel pump electrical connector at fuel tank.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Disconnect negative battery terminal to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start engine.
