SUBJECT:
INFORMATION ON BYPASSING INOPERATIVE FUEL DOOR RELEASE MECHANISM
MODELS AFFECTED:
1992-93 SKYLARK
When the fuel door release mechanism is inoperative, there is no alternate release mechanism to open the fuel door.
An inoperative fuel door release mechanism could result from several causes:
1. The cable breaks.
2. The cable is not attached correctly or becomes detached.
3. The release handle breaks or does not function.
An inoperative door release mechanism can be bypassed using the following procedure.
1. Insert a common tongue depressor in the gap around the fuel filler door opening at the 9:00 o'clock position as shown in Figure 1.
2. Push the tongue depressor into the opening approximately 1.5 inches. The fuel door should release and open.
