SUBJECT:
SECTION 8C AND 6E3 - REVISED POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

MODELS:
1994 BUICK PARK AVENUE AND LESABRE
1994 OLDSMOBILE NINETY EIGHT AND EIGHTY EIGHT
1994 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

The powertrain control module (PCM) connector pins could be bent if the connectors and PCM are not mated carefully before installing PCM into PCM bracket. Update the PCM service procedure in Section 8C and 6E3 and in the Buick Electrical Systems Manual (ESM) to reflect the following procedure.

Powertrain Control Module -

Remove or Disconnect:

1. Negative battery cable.

2. Disable SIR system, refer to "Disabling the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System" in Section 9J or 8C.

3. PCM from mounting bracket. Pull bottom of PCM rearward over locking tabs and downward to remove.

4. PCM connectors.

5. If PCM is being replaced, remove PROM for installation in new PCM.

Install or Connect:

1. If PCM is being replaced, install PROM from original PCM.

2. Carefully install PCM connectors to PCM before installing PCM into bracket.

3. PCM into bracket. Make sure PCM is up over locking tabs and locks into place.

4. Enable SIR system, refer to "Enabling the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System" in Section 9J or 8C.

5. Negative battery cable.
