Vehicle Damage Warnings
CAUTION: To avoid deployment when troubleshooting the SIR system, do not use electrical test equipment such as a battery powered or AC powered voltmeter, ohmmeter, etc, or any type of electrical equipment other than that specified. Do not use a non-powered probe type tester. Instructions must be followed carefully, otherwise personal injury may result.1. Disconnect connector C205 and Passenger Inflator Module Yellow 2-Way Connector which are located at the base of the steering column and behind the I/P compartment, when servicing the SIR system.
2. Inflator modules should not be subjected to temperatures above 65°(150°F).
3. Inflator Module, Forward Discriminating Sensor. DERM or Dual Sensor should not be used if it has been dropped from a height of 91.4 centimeters (3 feet) or more.
4. Forward Discriminating Sensor and/or the Dual Sensor should never be struck with a hammer or other tool.
5. When a Discriminating Sensor and/or Dual Sensor is replaced, it MUST be oriented with the arrow on the sensor pointing toward the front of the vehicle. It is very important for the Forward Discriminating Sensor and/or the Dual Sensor to be located flat on the mounting surface, parallel to the vehicle Datum Line. It is also important that the sensor mounting surface is free of any dirt or other foreign material.
6. To avoid damage to the DERM, power should not be connected to the DERM without it being properly mounted in the vehicle.
7. Do not apply power to the SIR system unless all the components are connected or the diagnostic chart requests it, as this sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
