Ignition Lock Cylinder

CAUTION: On models equipped with airbags, refer to Air Bags / Service and Repair / Air Bag System Disarming prior to performing any repair. Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Steering wheel.
2. Cover screws (22).
3. Upper steering column cover (3).
4. Lower steering column cover screws (26) and lower steering column cover (24).
5. Steering column from vehicle.
6. Lock cylinder housing assembly (19) as follows:

a. With the key in "RUN" position and the shift lever in "PARK" position, drill off heads of two shear bolts (13) using a 6.5 mm (1/4 inch) drill bit, (Figure 3).
b. Remove lock cylinder housing assembly.
c. Remove threaded ends of shear bolts (13) from lock cylinder housing assembly with locking type pliers.

7. Clean all metal shavings from all parts after drilling.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lock cylinder housing assembly with two shear bolts.

a. With the key in "RUN" position.
b. Tighten the two shear bolts until bolt head separates from bolt body approximately 11.0 Nm (97 lb in).

2. Steering column into vehicle.
3. Lower steering column cover with three screws and tighten to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).
4. Upper steering column cover to lower cover with two screws and tighten to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).
5. Steering wheel.
