The above listed vehicles use a plastic material in the reveal moldings on windshields that may slightly etch or have surface marring when tape is applied to the surface. In addition to the windshield moldings, the back window moldings on the Grand Am, Achieva and Skylark (Skylark sedan only) may also be affected.
Tape applications to these moldings may typically occur during windshield replacements, reseal repairs for water leaks, or during paint repair/refinishing operations.
DO NOT APPLY TAPE DIRECTLY TO THE MOLDING SURFACE during service operations to the windshield reveal moldings. If the application of tape is required, make sure to cover the exterior surface of the molding with masking paper or other suitable products in the area of the tape to protect it from etching/marring.
If paint repairs/refinishing operations are required, DO NOT APPLY TAPE DIRECTLY ON THE MOLDING SURFACE as would be done in normal masking procedures. Use a "cord technique" such as "FOLLEX", or equivalent, or a product such as 3M(R) # 06349 Trim Masking Tape, or equivalent, which apply under the molding and lifts the molding lip off the roof panel while being secured to the glass surface. Again, make sure to protect the exterior surface of the molding from tape.
If the dealer/retailer does not perform glass work or have a body/paint repair facility, the Service Manager should provide a copy of this bulletin to any sublet facility doing glass service or body/paint service for the dealer/retailer.
