Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Filter Replacement:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
- Refer to Fuel System / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Quick-connect fitting at fuel filter.
4. Fuel feed pipe from fuel filter. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved container.
5. Fuel filter.
Inspect
Fuel pipe O-ring for cuts, nicks, swelling or distortion. Replace if necessary.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
WARNING: To Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury:
- If nylon pipe is nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, it must be replaced.
1. New plastic connector retainer on filter inlet.
- Install in same position as an old filter.
2. Quick-connect fitting at in-line fuel filter.
3. Fuel feed pipe nut to outlet side of filter.
Tighten
Fuel filter outlet nut to 30 Nm (22 lb. ft.).
- Use back-up wrench to prevent filter from turning.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Tighten fuel filler cap.
6. Negative battery cable.
INSPECT
Turn the ignition switch to "ON," position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for 10 seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
