Trunk / Liftgate: Description and Operation

LIFT/GATE/REAR COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE
Voltage is applied through the MULTI-FUNCTION ALARM IN-LINE Fuse to the Transaxle Range Switch, while in "PARK," to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch. With the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch closed, current flows through the Rear Compartment Lid Release Solenoid to ground, releasing the Rear Compartment Lid Lock.

LIFTGATE RELEASE
With the ignition Switch in "RUN," "BULB TEST," or "START" and the Gear Selector Lever in "PARK," voltage is applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch. When the switch is closed, voltage is applied to the Release Relay. The relay energizes and voltage is applied to the Release Solenoid, releasing the liftgate.

WITH KEYLESS ENTRY
Voltage is applied through the MULTI-FUNCTION ALARM IN-LINE Fuse to the Transaxle Range Switch or Park/Neutral Position Switch. With this switch in "PARK" voltage is then applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch or to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). When the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch is closed or when the rear compartment release is pressed on the RCDLR transmitter, voltage is applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Solenoid (Sedan). This in turn releases the rear compartment. If the vehicle is a Wagon voltage is applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Relese Relay. Voltage is also applied to the release relay through the PWR/AC circuit break fuse. These voltages close the switch which sends voltage to the Liftgate Lock Release Solenoid. This in turn releases the liftgate.

WITHOUT KEYLESS ENTRY
Voltage is applied through the MULTI-FUNCTION ALARM IN-LINE Fuse to the Transaxle Range Switch or Park/Neutral Position Switch. With this switch in "PARK" voltage is then applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch. When the switch is closed voltage is applied to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Solenoid (Sedan) or Liftgate Lock Release Solenoid (Wagon). This in turn releases the liftgate.
