Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery cables, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, including air flow duct from throttle body, then all necessary wiring.
3. Remove hood, then disconnect throttle, throttle valve and cruise control cables.
4. Remove fuel lines. Refer to Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Service and Repair for fuel pressure bleed procedure.
5. Remove crossover pipe from manifolds, then serpentine drive belt.
6. Remove radiator and heater hoses from engine, then A/C bolts at front bracket.
7. Remove power steering pump and position aside, then remove alternator, if necessary.
8. Remove brake booster vacuum supply line, then EGR at exhaust, if equipped.
9. Raise and support vehicle, then remove A/C compressor bolts at rear bracket. Position compressor aside.
10. Remove A.I.R. pump, if equipped, then flywheel cover.
11. Remove starter, then torque converter bolts.
12. Remove transaxle bracket. then exhaust pipe from manifold.
13. Remove engine front mount retaining nuts, then lower vehicle.
14. Remove engine torque strut(s), then bulkhead connector.
15. Support transaxle, then remove transaxle attaching bolts.
16. Attach suitable lifting device to engine, then remove engine from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
