Windows: Description and Operation

A Permanent Magnet (PM) Motor operates each of the power windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when voltage is supplied to it. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. The switches control the supply voltage polarity.

The LH Front Window Switch is the source of ground for the other window switches.

Each motor is protected by a built-in circuit breaker. If a window switch is held too long with the window obstructed or after the window is fully up or down, the circuit breaker opens the circuit. The circuit breaker resets only after voltage is removed from the motor.

LH Front Window Switch Operation
When the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," battery voltage is applied to the LH Front Window Switch through the WDO Circuit breaker and CKT 41. when any of the UP Switches in the LH Front Window Switch are operated, battery voltage is applied to the corresponding Window Motor. The Window Motor is grounded through the DN contact in the LH Front Window Switch. The motor runs to drive the window up. When any of the DN Switches in the LH Front Window Switch are operated battery voltage is applied to the Window Motor in the opposite direction. The Window Motor is grounded through the UP contact in the LH Front Window Switch. The motor runs to drive the window down.If the LH Front DN Switch in the LH Front Window Switch is momentarily pressed down past the first detent, the window will travel to the fully down position.

Window Switch Operation
When the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," battery voltage is applied to the window switches through the WDO Circuit Breaker and CKT 41 to the switches. When the UP Switch in the RH Front Window Switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the RH Front Window Motor through CKT 666. The motor is grounded through CKT 667, the DN contact in the RH Front Window Switch, and CKT 167, the DN contact in the LH Front Window Switch. The motor runs to drive the window up. When the DN Switch is operated, battery voltage is applied to the RH Front Window Motor in the opposite direction through CKT 667. The Motor is grounded through CKT 666, the UP contact in the RH Front Window Switch, and CKT 166, the UP contact in the LH Front Window Switch. The motor runs to drive the window down. The other windows operate similarly from their individual window switches.
