Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Filter:
^ There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace fuel filter if it is restricted.
^ If the in-line fuel filter is restricted, the fuel tank should be inspected internally and cleaned if necessary.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Perform Fuel Pressure Release Procedure.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Fuel filter bracket attaching bolt.
5. Quick-connect fittings.
6. Fuel filter.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Remove protective caps from new filter.
2. New plastic connector retainers on filter inlet and outlet tubes.
^ Install in same positions as on old filter noting direction of fuel flow arrow.
3. Quick-connect fittings.
4. Trap in-line fuel filter over return pipe and install to frame with attaching bolt.
Tighten
Bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in.).
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Tighten fuel filler cap.
7. Negative battery cable.
INSPECT
^ Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
