Fuel System Cleaning Procedures
NOTE: Only use oil free compressed air to blow out the fuel pipes.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
2. Drain the fuel tank.
3. Remove the fuel tank.
4. Remove the fuel sender assembly.
5. Inspect the fuel pump strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer and inspect the fuel pump.
6. Inspect the fuel pump inlet for dirt and debris. Replace the fuel pump if you find dirt or debris in the fuel pump inlet.
7. Flush the fuel tank with hot water.
WARNING: When flushing the fuel tank, the fuel and water mixture needs to be treated as a hazardous material. The material needs to be handled in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.
8. Pour the water out of the fuel sender assembly opening. Rock the tank to be sure that removal of the water from the tank is complete.
9. Install the fuel sender assembly.
10. Install the fuel tank.
11. Refill the fuel tank.
12. Install the fuel filler cap.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Inspect for fuel leaks through the following steps:
- Turn the ignition to the ON position for two seconds.
- Turn the ignition to the OFF for ten seconds.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Check for fuel leaks.
