Condition
Some owners may comment on a twist in the front seat belt webbing between the pillar guide loop and the retractor or that the seat belt is not retracting freely and completely back into the retractor.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a weak retractor.
Correction
To correct this condition, check seat belt assembly part number.
^ If the seat belt assembly is the new part number as listed below:
1. There should be no twist between the retractor and the guide loop.
2. There should be a 180 clockwise twist between the guide loop and the rocker on the driver's side. Refer to Figure 1 and 2.
3. There should be a 180 counter clockwise twist between the guide loop and the rocker on the passenger side. Refer to Figures 1 and 2.
4. The latch plate should face to the outside of the vehicle if the belt is held without a twist from the guide loop to the latch.
5. If the belt or the latch are not positioned as described in Steps 1 through 4, corrections should be made without removing any part of the seat belt system.
^ If the seat belt assembly is the old part number as listed below, replace both the right and left seat belt assembly with the new part number. Refer to Section 10-11 in the Service Manual for remove and install procedures.
