Troubleshooting Hints - Exterior Lights

1. If the turn signal lamps do not work, check TURN SIGNAL Fuse. If open repair a short to ground in circuit 534.
2. If the hazard lamps do not work, check HAZARD Fuse. If open repair a short to ground in circuit 1840.
3. If the stop lamps do not work, check the STOP LAMP Fuse. If open repair a short to ground in circuit 140.
4. If one of the turn indicators goes on when the park lamps are turned on, check the front park/turn signal lamp on that side for open or poor connection.
5. If turn signal lamps stay on (do not flash) in both turn left and turn right, replace the hazard lamp/turn signal lamp flasher.
6. For any of the following symptoms replace the turn signal switch:
^ Turn signal switch will not turn on or off.
^ All turn/hazard/stop lamps do not work and C201 is firmly mated.
^ Some turn signal lamps work and all hazard lamps work.
^ Some hazard lamps work and all turn signal lamps work.
^ Hazard lamps do not turn off.
7. If hazard lights stay on (do not flash) with hazard switch on, but the stop lights operate normally, replace the hazard lamp/turn signal lamp flasher.
8. If stop lamps do not turn off, adjust/replace the stop lamp switch.
9. If a turn indicator does not light, but the turn signal works, check the bulb, connection and wiring to the indicator.
10. If only one light does not operate, check the lamp, socket and related wiring for opens or corrosion.
11. If one front park and side marker lamp do not light, make sure the ground is clean and tight.
12. If park lights do not turn off, check headlamp switch. If OK, repair circuit 9 for a short to B+.
13. If one rear lamp is inoperative, check for open in circuit 350 and circuit 301 between 5419 and inoperative lamp.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems. Refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures. Diagnostic Aids
