B0532

DTC IPC B0532 Fuel Level Sensor Input Shorted To Ground:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The Instrument Panel Cluster IPC reads the fuel level directly over a discrete input from the fuel level sender. The fuel level sender has a resistance range from 40 ohms (Below E) to 250 ohms (Above F). The raw fuel level data is filtered for gauge display purposes. The IPC has two filter modes. A slow (heavy) filter is used whenever the vehicle is out of Park to prevent fuel slosh from activating the gauge display. A fast (light) filter is used whenever the vehicle is in Park allowing the gauge display to respond quickly when the vehicle is being fueled. The IPC also sends raw fuel level data to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) via Class 2 serial data bus.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC:
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) IPC B0532 will set if the IPC determine the Fuel Input is shorted to Ground. The IPC determines this when the Fuel Input is less than 11 ohms for more than 2.5 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN (BY IPC):
A Class 2 message will be sent to the PCM indicating the failure. The IPC will also drive the Fuel Gauge pointer against the pointer stop or to its lowest position below "E" when this code is current. The Low Fuel LED shall not be illuminated while this failure condition exists.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
Check CKT 30 for a short to Ground
