U1096 Loss of Communications With IPC

DTC U1096 - Loss Of Serial Communications - IPC:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
While the Ignition switch is in "RUN" modules communicating on the Class 2 Data Bus send a "State of Health" (SOH) message every 5 seconds to ensure that the system is operating properly.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The Body Control Module (SBM) does not receive a SOH message from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) after three consecutive monitoring cycles.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
The IPC transmits a SOH message to the SBM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
1. If there are multiple Class 2 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) (i.e. DTCs U1300, U1301, U1160, U1152), check for a intermittent short to power or ground in CKT 1807 (PPL).
2. If DTC is current attempt to establish communications with the IPC using a scan tool.

^ If communications can be established with the IPC then replace SBM, refer to I/P, Gauges and Console Instrument Panel, Gauges And Warning Indicators. Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators
3. If the DTC is history, check for intermittent open in CKT 1807 (PPL).
