Engine Removal

1. Remove the hood.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
4. Depressurize the fuel lines. See Powertrain Management.
5. Drain the coolant. See Cooling System.
6. Drain the engine oil.
7. Remove the radiator hoses.
8. Remove the heater supply hoses. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
9. Remove the drive belt.
10. Remove the power steering pump. Set the pump aside. See Steering and Suspension.
11. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor.
12. Remove the air flow duct.
13. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle linkage. Disconnect the bakery wire from the generator.
14. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail and the pressure regulator.
15. Remove the brake booster from the engine vacuum connections.
16. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
17. Remove the exhaust pipe from the right manifold. See Exhaust System.
18. Remove the wiring harness connectors from the following locations:
^ The MAT sensor
^ The throttle position sensor
^ The idle air control valve
^ The oxygen sensor
^ The A/C compressor
^ The oil pressure switch
^ The power steering cutout switch
^ The vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
^ The low oil level sensor
19. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine. Tie the compressor back away from the engine.
20. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the engine block.
21. Remove the flexplate cover.
22. Remove the starter motor. See Starting and Charging.
23. Remove the torque converter to flexplate bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
24. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
25. Remove the right engine splash shield.
26. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
27. Remove the engine to transmission brackets.
28. Remove the right lower transmission to engine bolts.
29. Lower the vehicle.
30. Remove the generator rear brace. See Starting and Charging.
31. Disconnect the engine harness connector at the bulkhead.
32. Remove the cruise control stepper motor from the cowl and set aside. See Cruise Control.
33. Attach a suitable lifting hook and chain to the engine lifting brackets.
34. Raise the engine slightly to take weight off the mounts.
35. Remove the engine mount.
36. Remove the engine mount bracket.
37. Remove the accessory drive belt and the supercharger belt.
38. Remove the four engine to transmission bolts.
39. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
