Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General

The IPC serves as the primary interface for the vehicle's driver. The following areas will be discussed in detail below: Gauges, Driver Information Center (DIC), Indicators, and Odometer.

In addition to the areas listed, the IPC communicates with other major electronic components over a Class 2 serial data line.

INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)
The IPC used in this vehicle consists of either a base level cluster or an Uplevel (DIC) cluster. A list of IPC functions follows:
^ Park Brake Switch
^ Brake Fluid Level Switch
^ Driver Information Center Display (Uplevel IPC only)
^ Warning/Status Messages
^ Electronic PRNDL
^ English/Metric Display
^ Fuel Level
^ Head Up Display (HUD) Control
^ Dedicated Odometer Display (Base level IPC only)
^ Indicators

The IPC has the capability to diagnose malfunctions in the sensors, input switches, components and systems it controls or communicates with. When the IPC, or another microprocessor-controlled module, detects a malfunction, it may turn on an IPC indicator or request/display a message to the DIC to alert the driver that a malfunction has occurred. Some indicator lamps and IPC messages have dual controls.
