Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)
The INSTANTANEOUS FUEL ECONOMY can be displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the "FUEL" button until the display reads "FUEL ECONOMY INST. MPG" or "FUEL ECONOMY INST. L/100km."Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE) is based on the previous few seconds of driving as follows:
IFE = Distance / Fuel Used x Scale Factor
Fuel data is received from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Distance is determined from the discrete vehicle speed input to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). This parameter cannot be reset by the driver. This portion of the IPC will be dashed if there is a loss of PCM communications.
The IPC will dash the displays if the serial data line or an interacting module are not communicating.
