Interior Lamps
INADVERTENT POWERAt connector C1 terminal D1 of the Body Control Module (SBM), Inadvertent Power is both an input and an output but it will always be either an output or an input. When the Inadvertent Power output is inactive, activating any lamp switch will ground the Inadvertent Power input through the lamp. As a result of this input, the SBM will activate the Inadvertent Power output.
The Inadvertent Power output supplies battery voltage to the lamps on CKT 1732 (ORN). Any of these lamps could drain the battery if accidentally left on. The SBM has a battery protection feature to protect the electrical system from these unwanted loads. There are four possible conditions to activate the Inadvertent Power output. These conditions are:
^ The ignition switch is in RUN.
^ The Inadvertent Power output is inactive and the Inadvertent Power input receives an active lamp input.
^ Any door is opened.
^ The SBM receives an input from the Remote Function Actuator (RFA).
The SBM will deactivate the Inadvertent Power output if any lamp has been active for more than 10 minutes and the ignition switch has been in OFF during the entire period.
INTERIOR LAMP CONTROL
The SBM controls the function of the courtesy lamps. I/P Bussed Electrical Center (BEC) SBM Fuse supplies battery voltage at all times to the SBM Inadvertent Power output. Battery voltage is supplied to the courtesy lamps as described above. The Body Control Module provides a ground path to the courtesy lamps from two different outputs, Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2. Theatre Dim-1 supplies ground to lamps on CKT 156 (WHT). Theatre Dim-2 supplies ground to lamps on CKT 157 (GRY). The SBM will activate these outputs when a door is open or the courtesy lamps switch is activate. The outputs are deactivated when the SBM detects that all doors are closed and the courtesy lamps switch is inactive. If the outputs are deactivated due a door closing, the outputs will be deactivated with the theatre dimming function. If the outputs are deactivated due to the courtesy lamps switch, the outputs will be deactivated immediately without the theatre dimming function being executed.
DELAYED ILLUMINATION
The SBM will activate the Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2 outputs for a period of 25 seconds when any door is closed. This will only occur if the ignition switch is in OFF. If any other door is closed during the delay period, then the SBM will begin counting the 25 seconds again. The outputs will be deactivated before the 25 seconds if the ignition switch is turned to RUN or the lock all doors switch is activated. The theatre dimming function will be performed after the 25 second period or an ignition switch input, but not after a doors lock input.
AUXILIARY LIGHTING
The SBM allows the RFA to control the interior lighting through CKT 1393 (DK BLU). When the keyless entry transmitter is used for a remote lock or unlock function, the RFA will activate the Auxiliary Lighting input on the SBM. The SBM will then activate the Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2 outputs for up to 15 seconds. After the 15 seconds, the SBM will enter the Delayed Illumination mode for another 25 second period. A door open input will end the Auxiliary Lighting mode and the SBM will begin the Delayed Illumination mode. If the ignition switch is turned to RUN, the Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2 outputs will be deactivated. The outputs will also be deactivated if the lock all doors switch is activated. The SBM will not perform another Auxiliary Lighting function until the input transitions from inactive to active.
EXIT LIGHTING
The SBM activates the Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2 outputs for 25 seconds after the driver removes the key from the ignition. The outputs are deactivated when the ignition switch is turned to RUN. The Exit Lighting function will be deactivated when a door is opened, but the Theatre Dim-1 and Theatre Dim-2 outputs will remain active due to the interior Lamp Control function.
LAMPS WITH SWITCHES
The I/P compartment lamp, the rear compartment courtesy lamp, the rail lamps, the overhead courtesy/reading lamps, and all vanity mirrors each have a switch on the ground side of the lamp. When the Inadvertent Power output of the SBM is inactive, activating a switch will ground the Inadvertent Power input. This tells the SBM to activate the Inadvertent Power output, which supplies power to the interior lamps. Any lamp with an active switch will then turn on.
CIGAR LIGHTERS
Voltage is applied at all times to the cigar lighters through a Rear BEC fuse (refer to schematic). When a cigar lighter is pressed in, the cigar lighter heating element is provided a ground path and heats up. When the heating element reaches a predetermined value, the cigar lighter will pop up, thus interrupting the circuit.
