Throttle Body Assembly Removal and Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
2. Drain the radiator coolant.
3. Remove the air intake tube (1).
4. Remove the IAC valve, TP sensor, and MAF sensor, (3) electrical connectors.
5. Remove the vacuum lines (1) from the throttle body (2) noting location.
6. Remove the accelerator control (3) and cruise control cables (1) from the throttle body lever and bracket.
7. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket (4) if necessary.
8. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket, if replacing throttle body.
9. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold using a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts to prevent the inserts from rotating in the manifold casting.
10. Remove the throttle body assembly.
NOTICE: Do Not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.
Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.
11. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the new gasket, and new inserts and studs if necessary.
2. Install the throttle body assembly.
3. Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts.
- Tighten the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb ft).
4. Install the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body if necessary.
- Tighten the accelerator cable bracket to 11 Nm (8 lb ft).
5. Install the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket.
6. Install the accelerator control (3) and cruise control (1) cables to accelerator cable bracket (4) at throttle body.
IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle. Refer to Accelerator Controls.
7. Install the accelerator control (3) and cruise control (1) cables to the throttle body lever.
8. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
9. Install the vacuum lines (1) to throttle body as noted on removal.
10. Install the IAC valve, TP sensor, and MAF sensor, electrical connectors (3) to the throttle body (2).
11. Install the air intake tube (1).
12. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.
13. Install the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
- Tighten the fuel injection sight shield nut to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
