Accelerator Control Cable Replacement

Accelerator Cable:

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
2. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2) lever.
3. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable (1) through the bulkhead.
4. Remove the accelerator control cable shield, if equipped.
5. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the retaining clip (2).
6. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the right slot on top of washer bottle (3).
7. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.
8. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket (4).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTICE: In order to prevent possible interference and damage, flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts, unless the routing is positively controlled.
1. Install the accelerator cable (1) through the bulkhead.
2. Install the snap retainer through the bulkhead.
3. Install the accelerator cable (1) through the slot in the accelerator pedal lever (2).

IMPORTANT: Cable end fitting will snap into position and fit flush against accelerator control pedal lever.

4. Assemble the dash panel insulator retainer to accelerator control cable.
5. Push (from the passenger compartment) the retainer over cable lever end fitting and up cable until it snaps onto flange of cable dash fitting.
- Retainer will fit flush to dash mat.

IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed and wide open throttle.

6. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
7. Install the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.
8. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket (4).
9. Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the right slot on top of washer bottle (3).
10. Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the retaining clip (2).
11. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages, And Console.
12. Install the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.
