Pedal Switch Replacement
FOLLOWING THE PROPER SEQUENCEThe brake switches must be removed and installed in sequence. The sequence is as follows:
Removal - Remove the lower switch first, followed by the upper switch.
Installation - Install the upper switch first, followed by the lower switch.
TCC/ABS SWITCH (LOWER)
Remove Or Disconnect
1. Left Instrument Panel (I/P) sound insulator.
2. Stoplamp/Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock (BTSI) switch. Twist switch counter-clockwise to unlock and pull out of retainer.
3. Electrical connectors from switch.
Install Or Connect
1. If both switches were removed, install the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)/Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) (upper) switch first.
CAUTION:
^ Do not push or pull on the brake pedal while installing the brake switches or damage to the brake system and/or switches may occur.
^ Do not side load the brake switches during installation or damage to the brake system and/or switches may occur.
NOTE:
^ Make all connections before installing. Be sure all connectors are thinly seated and locked.
2. Stoplamp/BTSI Switch. Slide switch (with all connections made) into retainer. Press switch in until switch plunger is fully depressed into switch barrel.
3. Twist switch clockwise until travel stop has been reached (approximately 60°). With switch fully locked, the electrical connector will face the 3 o'clock position.
TCC/ABS SWITCH (UPPER)
Remove Or Disconnect
1. Stoplamp/BTSI switch.
2. TCC/ABS switch. Twist counterclockwise to unlock and pull out of retainer.
3. Electrical connectors from switch.
Install Or Connect
1. TCC/ABS Switch. Slide switch (with all connections made) into retainer. Press switch in until switch plunger is fully depressed into switch barrel.
