Circuit Operation
The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) or Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) controls a bi-directional magnetic rotary actuator. The actuator, which is located in the steering gear, adjusts the amount of power steering assist to achieve a given level of driver effort to turn the vehicle. The EBTCM varies the steering assist by adjusting the current flow through the actuator. The amount of steering assist adjusted for steering is dependent upon vehicle speed (i.e. as vehicle speed increases, steering assist decreases [driver effort increases] and as speed decreases, steering assist increases [driver effort decreases]).If an open or short is present in CKT 345 (WHT) or CKT 1787 (GRY) the EBTCM will set DTC C1241 (MAGNA STEER(R) CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION). If DTC C1241 is current, the Magna Steer(R) can not be controlled by a scan tool.

The MAGNA STEER(R) system has three response modes. The Magna Steer(R) steering response mode may be custom selected using a Scan Tool per driver request.
