Front Suspension

^ Tool Required:
- J 36226 Ball Joint Separator
- Or Equivalent

NOTICE: Use only the recommended tools for separating the ball joint from knuckle. Failure to use recommended tools may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise vehicle and suitably support by frame allowing control arms to hang free.
2. Wheel and tire.





3. Stabilizer link to control arm bolt.





4. Cotter pin and loosen nut from ball stud.

NOTICE: Care must be taken not to overextend tri-pot axle joints. Overextension of the joint could result in separation of internal components which could go undetected and result in failure of the joint.





5. Using J 36226, ball joint from steering knuckle.





6. Control arm mounting bolts.
7. Control arm from frame.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Control arm to frame.
2. Bolts, washers and nuts.

Important: Do not tighten control arm nuts at this time. Weight of vehicle must be supported by control arms such that the vehicle design trim heights are obtained before tightening control arm mounting nuts. Refer to TRIM HEIGHT.

3. Stabilizer link to control arm.
4. Ball joint to knuckle.
^ Tighten stabilizer shaft link assembly nut to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
5. Ball joint nut.
^ Tighten ball joint nut to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.). Then tighten two flats to a minimum of 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) to align cotter pin slot.
6. Cotter pin.
7. Wheel and tire.
^ Tighten wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Check trim height.
^ Tighten control arm nuts in the following sequence:
A. Rear mounting bolt to 158 Nm (117 ft. lbs.).
B. Front mounting nut to 126 Nm (93 ft. lbs.).
